The Ealing North MP has been named as Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary by Labour Party leader Ed Miliband, just a month after being made a junior minister in the whips office.

Confirming the appointment on Sunday, Mr Miliband said: “Steve has served for more than ten years on the Northern Ireland Select Committee and knows the brief backwards. I’m delighted to welcome him to the opposition ministerial team.”
