Council cuts: the rich get richer, while the poor get poorer

Communities secretary Eric Pickles is desperately trying to head off a political row after analysis shows the most deprived areas will suffer most from local authority cuts - while the richest areas will benefit

It's amazing to find out apparently, that councils in the most deprived area of England, Like Brent are going to be the hardest hit by the LIb Con coalition draconian spending cuts, Some tory run councils may even be better of and receive EXTRA monies.

I think this just shows that the cuts are being planned to hit labour run authorities and in the long run will benefit the tories when it comes to electioneering. Eric Pickles who announced the CUTS with much glee,has gone back to the treasury and has tried to get extra monies to reduce the impact on poorer boroughs, which just shows that he does not understand what he is imposing.

This situation just highlights how biased the LIB CONS are and the spending review needs to be torn up and needs to be re-profiled so that it is geared towards boroughs like Brent, who have a greater need, but this would required the Treasur's approval,which would probably not be forthcoming.

Cabinet secretary Gus O'Donnell has commissioned a review into the effects of the spending review cuts on employment levels in different parts of the country, "a tacit acknowledgement that public sector cuts could lead to higher unemployment in very deprived areas".

This shows that the LIB CON's statement about "Fairness" does not wash and the cut's are going to impact the poorest and most vulnerable members of our society.

Hugh Grover, London Councils' director of fair funding, said that to reconcile the extremes produced by the spending review would require 'politically difficult' choices of taking big cuts out of the grant to councils at the top end - largely Conservative-led councils in the south-east. The local government finance settlement is due shortly in December and will be announced in a statement to Parliament and this will set in stone the final cuts that will impact Brent and it's residents.

We in Brent are not holding out for any favours from the LIB CONS, as it looks like that the pain will continue from these FORCED and IMPOSED cuts from the coalition
